On being in a new city....

I have been living in Nashville for 2 months as of today.  While living here, I have been frequenting jam sessions and other opportunities to meet people.  I know just as well as anyone else that networking is the name of the game.  Although there are opportunities that can be found online through regular browsing and "gig hunting", most gigs (at least the ones that are worth getting) are found through knowing the right people and being available for those gigs at the right time.  Of course, the struggle is patience.  I do have a monthly gig that I've been able to land where I will be playing with other musicians from here in a Catholic worship service, but it doesn't pay.  It's a good opportunity for people who might get me paid gigs to hear me play and see what I can do, but I find that it's easy to get frustrated with the amount of time it's taking to actually find paid gigs.  And because I'm here to try to see if I can make a living off of performing/recording music, I'm trying not get a job wherein my cash flow would be better but I wouldn't be available for a road gig if one comes up, which is what I'm really looking for.  At this point, the best thing I can do is work on my art as much as possible.  I try to spend as much time as I can at the drum set, improving my skills and getting my limbs to get better at working independently.  Also, I'm obsessed with improving my time, but I feel that is really one of the most important things that I drummer can have together.  I'm just hoping to find the right gig and be available for it once it comes up and hopefully soon.
