I tend to have a difficult time with getting enough sleep. It usually has a lot to do with when I actually get to bed. That really effects me. I enjoy how I feel when I'm rested and always resolve to try to get to bed more regularly, but sometimes it's just really hard to do. I find that I would describe myself as an early riser AND a night owl. I enjoy the benefits and joys of both. It's the strangest thing. I'm also a very active person and have a lot of projects happening all the time. This is all related to everything else. I'm always struggling to try to make all of this work. But I also find that it's really uncomfortable for me to stay in bed and try to sleep if it doesn't work out right away. I like when I get to bed and am so tired that I fall asleep right away and don't have to lay there wondering when and if I'll fall asleep at that particular attempt. But the benefits of sleep are amazing and I really do enjoy those benefits.
A friend of mine mentioned that someone she knew recently saw Kevin Spacey at a bar in Nashville. I said, "That is someone that I would love to have a drink with if I saw them in public hanging out by themselves." Why? Because I find that brilliant artists of any genre inspire me to be a better musician. Painters, actors, composers, writers. But it seems to me that with famous artists in particular, they are regularly battling with the dichotomy of being an artist and a celebrity in the US. From what I've seen, it seems like a lot of our society makes great actors Celebrities first and Artists second, when it seems to me that any artist who is really into their art would prefer to be seen the other way around: As an Artist first and a Celebrity second. Really great actors are AMAZING artists: Leonardo Dicaprio, Edward Norton, Kevin Spacey, Johnny Depp, Amy Schumer, Meryl Streep to name a few. They really get into their characters and they really art artists.... Yet we idolize them because they are famous. I want to get to know the person that looks at their role and researches it, prepares to be that character, and brings it to life. Not just a face who I can take a picture with so that I can show people that one time, I ran into them and they were willing to pose for a picture with me, that ultimately doesn't really mean anything.
